An earthquake of magnitude 4.7 was reported near Delhi on Friday evening, according to India’s National Center for Seismology.
The epicentre of the first earthquake was 60 km southwest of Gurgaon in Haryana, the agency said.
The earthquake struck at 7:00:50 PM IST at a depth of 35 km from the surface.
Strong tremors were felt in Delhi and surrounding areas for several seconds.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, “Mild earthquake tremors were felt in Delhi some time ago. Hope you are all safe, take care of yourself.”

There was no immediate report of any damage to life of property.
